Viral Conjunctivitis is an eye infection that is a type of adenovirus ocular infection. It is highly contagious, has a tendency to occur in epidemics and in rare cases may cause permanent visual deficits. Symptoms of viral conjunctivitis include: a sudden onset of eye redness and swelling, discharge, photophobia, pruritis, foreign body sensation, excessive tearing. In severe cases some patients experience orbital pain and decreased visual acuity. Symptoms tend to last for 7-21 days .
Recommended treatment:

  • Wash hands or use hand sanitizer immediately after touching eyes or face.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, and do not share items such as towels, facecloths, pillows, sunglasses or other items which come in contact with your face or lips (lipstick, cups, bottles, toothbrushes, makeup, etc) with anyone else
  • Discard any soft contact lenses or makeup that has been used within 7 days of onset of symptoms and do not use contact lenses or makeup until 2-3 days after all eye symptoms are completely gone.
